Since 2015, Encore in the Middle East has been offering internship opportunities to eligible graduates who are passionate about kickstarting their career in the events industry. The aim is to provide these students with extensive practical experience in their chosen discipline under the direct supervision of experienced coaches. The annual program runs for six months from October to March, the busiest period at Encore Middle East. This gives participants  the opportunity to gain as much experience as possible in their chosen discipline, both in the warehouse and on site.

The structured approach of the program ensures that all interns are given the necessary information to be successful, starting with an orientation period in the warehouse covering operational procedures and technical expertise, as well as onsite experience. Each intern is paired up with a specialised team member to guarantee they have a productive learning experience. Whilst the internship programmme follows a specific structure, we also aim to keep it as organic as possible. This means we take into account an individual’s unique abilities and readiness levels, ensuring that they receive a personalised learning experience.

After a two-year break due to Covid, we were delighted to have welcomed two new interns last October: Caroline Frost from Canada who joined the Lighting Department; and Brian Els from South Africa who joined our Audio Department. We have been extremely pleased with their effort and hard work over the last six months and are excited to announce that Brian will be joining us permanently as an Audio Technician in Dubai.

Now that their internship has ended, they are keen to share their thoughts about the initiative and what they have learned on their six-month Encore journey.

If I had to describe my internship experience in three words, I’d say comprehensive, challenging and rewarding. The shows, the knowledge and most importantly the people, are unlike anything else you will find. My time at Encore was an absolutely unforgettable experience in the best possible way.

One of the most spectacular parts of the internship was being surrounded by the depths of knowledge in the people around me. Everyone was so kind and genuinely interested in teaching me about anything I could think to ask. The uniqueness of working in this region is that old school quality of saying “Yes” to any challenge that is thrown your way. If that is you, you will love it here. I’m excited to keep working.

It’s worth suffering through the heat. Trust me.

Sincerely,
A Canadian

Interesting, educational, and most definitely memorable are words I would use to describe my internship experience. From the day I arrived in the UAE I have felt included in the Encore family and it has been a privilege to work with the entire team. I have learned a lot that I will be carrying with me for the rest of my career. The internship has helped me grow personally and professionally and I am grateful for the opportunity I was given.

Thank you Encore and the entire team in the UAE. Special thanks to Miguel and the entire Audio team. I’m excited to continue my journey with the company and look forward to where my career will take me.
