1. Could you introduce yourself, and share how long you’ve been at Encore?
Hello, my name is Lou, and I’ve been a Sales Coordinator at Encore since 2022. I originally started in an administrative role before transitioning into sales, where I now work closely with client enquiries, proposals, quotations, and operations.
My day typically begins with checking emails and following up on client enquiries, particularly for ongoing projects, to make sure everything is moving forward smoothly.
2. What part of your role gives you the most satisfaction?
The most rewarding part of my role is securing a job and seeing it through from start to finish. Whether it’s a small or large-scale event, being involved from the initial enquiry through to execution, including load-in and load-out, is incredibly satisfying. Seeing everything come together successfully makes it all worthwhile.
3. What milestones are you looking towards achieving next?
I’d like to continue developing my problem-solving and decision-making skills. As a Sales Coordinator, I still rely on management for certain approvals, so building more confidence and independence in these areas is something I’m working towards.
4. What are you most proud of in your career?
In a fast-paced and demanding industry like events, I’m proud of my ability to think quickly and adapt. Having strong problem-solving skills and being fully present throughout the process helps build trust with both clients and colleagues, and shows that you’re truly part of the team delivering the event.
5. Working in such a prestigious hotel with exacting standards and demanding guests might seem daunting to some – how did you find your feet and what did you do to build your confidence?
I relied a lot on my administrative background, as hotel environments demand high standards, structure, and attention to detail.
Building confidence came through communication and collaboration, especially with venue teams such as stewarding, facilities, and banqueting. For larger events in particular, it’s important to understand the process, timeline, and overall flow.
From the Encore side, we deliver a consistent level of service that reassures clients we’re supporting them every step of the way. They know they can rely on us, even when last-minute requests arise.
6. What advice would you give to someone considering a career in event production?
My advice, especially for women considering a career in the events industry, is to take risks and embrace new opportunities.
Learn as you go and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Events are so much more than just audio, video, lighting, and staging. It’s about bringing all these elements together to create something exceptional.
Stay passionate about what you do, and the experience and opportunities will follow.
