1. Who are you & what do you do at Encore?

Hello, my name is Fiona. I work at Encore as a Technical Events Manager, based in Berlin, and I have been with the company for 3.5 years.

2. What drew you to this role?

I came into my role in the events industry through an internship at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. A friend had arranged an internship placement there for me at the time.

3. What do you enjoy the most about your role?

What I particularly value about my role is the variety and the many different types of events. Every day I work at different hotels and venues managing various events, interact with clients from all over the world, and work with friendly colleagues and technicians, which makes my job a great experience every day.

4. What’s the most challenging part of your role?

One challenge in my career so far was asserting myself as a woman in the industry and learning the necessary self-confidence. I had to learn to bring the right balance of self-confidence and self-assurance into my work to ensure that I am the best version of myself. I was supported in this by other women, such as my trainer and female technicians, as well as through my own personal development.

5. What advice can you give to someone considering a career in the events industry?

My tip for women who want to enter the events industry is to know—or find out—which area of the industry they see themselves in. There are many different and exciting jobs in our field. And once the right job has been chosen: don’t let anyone get you down.
