We were busy gearing up for the #WeMakeEvents Global Day of Action that took place on the 30th of September 2020 to highlight how the global live events industry urgently needs to get back to work. We’re proud to be partnering with JW Marriott Marquis, one of our amazing venues, to support the day.

More than 30 million people in 25 countries would usually work in the events industry, but with social distancing measures and other restrictions in place, there is no possibility of a financially viable return for the foreseeable future.

The majority of the industry has had no income since the beginning of the crisis in March, and with a global second wave of COVID-19 imminent, a date to return to work has become impossible to predict, leaving many companies and individuals devastated, both financially and personally.

The industry has now joined together as a worldwide force on September 30 for a Global Day of Action. This marks the start of a new phase of the campaign, which will continue to alert governments to the disastrous situation the sector faces. To highlight that the industry is on red alert, at 8pm UK time / 11pm Dubai time, we illuminated red the two towers of the JW Marriott Marquis and our Encore Main Warehouse in DIP 1. Our colleagues will also be lighting up offices and venues across the UK and Europe in solidarity for everyone in the events industry affected by COVID-19. Keep your eyes on our social media to see us #LightItInRed.
